2018 RONE Awards

HAPPY, HAPPY MONDAY!!!

What a way to start a new week, right? Talking about things that make you feel good, like book awards.

Any time I’ve been nominated for an award I’ve been consumed with this overwhelming feeling of gratitude. Why? Someone read my book. Someone loved my book. Not only that, they REMEMBERED it, it left an impression on them, long after the story was over.

That’s what this is all about, right?

Writing books that people love. Touching someone’s heart. Making lasting memories because, for readers, most of the time, reading is an escape. For a few hours, they can immerse themselves in another world. That world can be filled with danger or lies or happiness or gut-wrenching humor. Whatever they’re in the mood for, there’s a book out there that should satisfy what they’re craving.

When I wrote Dear Maggie, it never occurred to me that it was going to be a romantic comedy. I started with an idea that blossomed over and over again. At first, it felt like I was putting my main character, Lauren, through some crazy s**t just for fun. Once the story really started to come together, I saw the bigger picture.

Sometimes in life, there are moments that define you. The moments that defined Lauren’s life in that book led her to her HEA. A few of those moments had me in stitches. (Yes, her face landing in someone’s crotch on a first date defined her.)

A month ago when I found out Dear Maggie was a 2018 RONE (Reward Of Novel Excellence) Award nominee in the New Adult category I almost broke down in tears. I love my characters. I love their journeys, but Lauren’s was especially fun for me.

Voting for the New Adult category begins today and ends Sunday, May 13. If you’ve read and loved Dear Maggie as much as I have, I’d appreciate your vote. There are 11 nominees and only 4 will move on to be finalists.

“Dear Maggie” is an exciting read, with a very original idea. Lauren is a character readers will love to love. Her adventures — as she fills in for the vacationing love columnist and conducts her “research” — are hilarious. Each chapter begins with a letter to Maggie asking for her sage advice, which dovetails nicely with Lauren’s budding romance with Kyle, a love interest from her dating service. A smooth and enjoyable read from beginning to end, author Rachael Brownell has penned a winner!  Cuddle up in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the time spent with Lauren and her friends.  – InD’Tale Magazine Review, Crowned Heart review

Every choice creates a ripple…

JP release teaser

With the release of Lucky 13 in less than a month, I’m really excited to share with you what I have coming up after that.

The story is called Jumping Puddles. It’s a contemporary romance and follows Blake and Charlotte over a period of twenty plus years. It all starts when they meet in high school; Blake is about to graduate and Charlotte is a Sophmore. As their friendship blooms, so does their feelings for each other.

I just got my feedback from my beta readers and I’m pretty sure this sums it up best…

It’s a bit of a tear jerker at times. I’m not sorry about that fact at all.

My editor is getting started on May 25th and I’m scheduled for formatting and cover design at the end of June/beginning of July. I haven’t set an exact release date yet, but as soon as I do, I’ll post it. Until then, here’s a little sneak peak…

JP teaser 1

(The following content is unedited and all rights belong to Rachael Brownell, Author.)

“Are you still there, Charlie?” Blake’s voice cuts through the dark clouds that started to move their way back in. I only allow them to invade my life one day a year and that day has passed.

“I’m here. Sorry.”

“Hey, how about I call you when I get there? I’m about to jump on PCH and it looks busy already.”

“Sounds good. I’ll be here.”

“Okay. Love you, bye.”

He’s gone before I can say anything. To be honest, I’m not sure I would have been able to respond anyway. His words echo through my head over and over again until I hear the phone start beeping in my ear, a clear sign he’s hung up and I need to do the same.

I place the receiver on the base and sink to the floor. The entire summer runs through my mind as if in hyper speed. Did I miss something? When did things change and how did I not notice? I fell in love with him months ago but never thought in a million years he felt the same.

What happens now? Do I tell him how I feel or do I keep quiet? Each decision comes with a different set of outcomes. Those outcomes can completely change the path I’m on right now. They’ll change the course of Blake’s path too. Are those three little words worth stepping in the puddle, causing waves, or should I avoid it completely, jumping over the puddle to save what is by far the best friendship I’ve ever had?

Editing, Editing and more… Editing!

So, I spent the ENTIRE day – and when I say that I mean from about 10:30am until about 9pm – in my office, on my computer, drinking some form of caffeine, reading through the final draft of Unglued.  Fixing the minor errors that I found.  Wondering how I missed some of the simplest things the first round of edits.  Like, how is it that the word “it” shows up sometimes where the word “is” is supposed to be?

There weren’t a bunch of mistakes – thankfully!  There were enough that I want to read it one more time just to make sure that I got everything.  I think I make about 30 corrections.  Totally worth the loss of an entire day off from work.  My house is trashed and I’m sure that there is at least a few loads of laundry to do, but when I crawled in to bed last night, the only thing I could think about, the only thing I felt, was a sense of accomplishment.

So, here’s where we’re at…

Unglued Cover HD

I should get the final proof – no more changes to be made – back in a few weeks.  Once I sign off, the book will be available at the Tate bookstore online here.  I will have an official release date that I will be able to announce where it will become available on Amazon and at online retailers such as Barnes and Noble.  As soon as I have that date – you will have that date!

Remember, this is BOOK 2 in the series.  If you haven’t read Book 1 – Holding On – then you might want to get on that.  Unglued won’t make a lick of sense, you won’t understand the characters or the plot, if you haven’t read Holding On.  Where can you get it?  Here are all the links:

Tate:  https://www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore/book.php?w=978-1-62854-850-1

Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Holding-Rachael-Brownell-ebook/dp/B00H4I5FWY

B&N: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/holding-on-rachael-brownell/1117229555?ean=9781628548501

If you happen to buy it and read it, I could use some reviews (hint hint).

Cover Reveal

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting… you get the idea.  We finally hit 100 likes!!!  I am not great at keeping secrets, especially juicy ones.  I don’t like to have that knowledge weighing on me.  So, keeping this from all of you for even the short amount of time that I have has been slowly killing me.

I have checked my Facebook page at least ten times an hour to see how many like we are up to.  I’ve been watching my email just as much to see if the official “You can share” email has come through.  I would probably be going insane if it weren’t for modern technology.  I now understand why some people are so glued to their phones – the apps are addicting.

Anyway.  This is what I’ve been waiting to share with everyone.  The only person who’s seen it besides me at this point is my boyfriend.  Sorry but he’s privy to all that you are not at this point.  It’s his reward for putting up with me on daily basis.

I hope you like it as much as I do.  It was a tough decision the second time around.  They sent some great options but this is the one I decided to go with in the end…

So, when you head to B&N or are looking for the ebook for you Kindle or Nook or iPad, this is the image you will see.  Most importantly, just look for my name because it’s on the cover.  Yep, that’s me excited about my name being on the cover.  How freakin’ cool is that?

Sorry!

So, pre-orders for e-books should be going live soon.  How soon?  I’m not entirely sure but they said soon.  I am assuming that now that we have a cover that it won’t be much longer.  When it’s available you will all be the first to know.  Until then… you can just stare at this beautiful picture and try to imagine what’s on the inside.

Yep… I posted it again!  I know I might be just a tad bit crazy but that’s okay.  I am finally starting to get excited…
